On this day 30 years ago in Indy 1981

On this day 30 years ago a small group of runners started at 38th and Meridian., headed south around Monument Circle and bak to celebrate MDr. Martin Luther Kings birthday. Still running today from front to back, Les Martin, Ron Davies, Lamont Williams, and in memory Willie (tiny) Young. The next year Ken Long organized a MLK race at Riverside Park


With January half over and the weather at a nice 30 degrees , we all are thinking of getting our training and racing going, planning the events we want to do and just get going again. Mondays will be a re cap of the past weekend as good as possible in central Indiana.

Events:


At Northview Christian Life in Carmel was the 2nd of 4 Winter Cross Country 5K Runs. Unlike last weeks COLD COLD and 7 inchs of snow on the course , today was great . results . The 3rd of 4 Jan runs will be this coming Saturday $5 entry with 6 prizes given away weekly


Mini Marathon Training:


Indy Runners 1st training night will be Tuesday at Butler University. You may still enter this week.


NIFS and Ken Long's Bricks to Bricks programs are still open and will begin next week .


Nationally:


Dennna Kastor won for the first time in 9 months in the Arizonaa Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon in 1:09:43 and Shalane Flanagan in her first race over 10K won the Houston US 1/2 marathon in a time of 1:09:41
