Towne Run Run

The sun is out, its cold so the trail should be great to run on. When I ride my mountain bike on the trail I know where every root, rut and rock is as I speed thru the trail. But with a light snow cover and no tracks at the trail head, I am first in. As I start make the first couple turns and head south along the river, deer's tracks.

They look pretty fresh and maybe the deer is out doing a lap like me. A little further in the tracks double, then some BIG tracks, the buck. Thru the next couple miles the tracks are following the trail then gone. In mountain biking the trail turns back to north a bit , weaves around then back south and the tracks appear. Looks like the deer are taking the quickest way to the house, a straight line. The run is very good , quiet and crisp air, and all of a sudden the tracks are gone and a loop of trail covered with pure, uninterupted snow. I think the deer knew something that I didn't, as I did a Doug . Step, step, crunch the bottomless pit. Remember mountain biking , low spot, wet, dirty shoes now. Yep, the deer are pretty smart, so are all the other animals in the woods.

Now nearing the interstate bridge and the deer tracks are still on the trail. They are heading south like me but I know it is blocked and I will turn and head back. Overpass construction that will keep us mountain bikers from the south loop until June. That sucks .
Well the tracks make it to the fence, and they are on the south side of the fence, so it looks like the deer have some ups. A little 4 foot fence was no problem for them, but me I'm heading back north.
The next part of the trail, the tech part for mountain bikers or where the Monon Trail Bikers ( just own a mountain bike) usually EAT-IT, after saying this doesn't look like Kansas anymore Toto

The balance of the run is a faster pace just like on the bike , but to my shock, right before Tetanus Hill another runner, one of those young fast dudes. A hello as we pass, I see his tracks, long and straight which equals pretty fast. Those were the days. At 1 hour, the run was awesome, felt good. I can tell I am getting ready for the first Dino trail run at Eagle Creek, but I can't wait to get my boys off the ceiling in the garage. The trails are really fun on them.

  1. Great run, man! I still have the scars from the last we were out there.
