The Foundation

It all starts with a solid foundation. In anything we do , if the foundation is weak and not well planned out it will fail.

As it goes for distance training, the foundation is the part of the build that takes a long time and you cannot see much progress. In building the foundation holds the structure , and in marathon training the foundation or the base miles keep you from injury.

So with 6months,11days,23hours,7minutes and 35 seconds ( as I type) April has been digging the footers to pour the foundation.

Nothing spectacular, a few races to see if I still could enjoy the race. A few longer for me runs with no problems, so time to build the house.

The build goes on thru everything, you may need to pick certain times to do certain things but the work goes on.

This morning the work had to be done before noon to avoid the penalty. Cookout today! So rain or no rain , the mileage plan set prior, out to the Monon for my run.

The run , my bow-tie run, is main north to the end, (165th ) back to main to today 106th and back.

The catch is after the first 2 miles , each mile decreases. Now just like the pouring the foundation , things early progress slowly, so the mile pace drops by around 5 to 10 seconds a mile from mile 2.

It was a workout I did in my early days and you are very satified when you are done .

So again today was in rain then sun, light rain, some good wind for a mile a downpour for a couple and sprinkles at the end.

The marathon will be run if it is raining, trust me been their and done that many times. So if you just have the good foundation and discipline to work on the house everyday, when the time to hand over the keys you will have something to be proud of, in this case a great marathon.

Sunday reward for job well done today
10.43 miles every mile faster
