Impressive

Monday's winner of the 114th Boston Marathon is Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot of Kenya, blistered the course in 2:05:53. He is 20 year old farmer, and says with the winnings he will buy some more cows for his farm in Kenya. I am pretty sure he won't go out clubbing and buying bling like most pro athletics do in the US.
You know I have run the race many times, and in my best shape could only muster up a 2:38.
He looked calm and like jogging the whole way, and laying down several late 4:30 miles. Dude
In the commentary during the race they were comparing training of the top athletics in marathoning. Robert and Ryan Hall , the USA's best are guys that like to train by themselves.
I was and have always been that way. Yea I trained long runs with a few buddies back in the day , but for the most part at 5 in the morning you do not get to many takers.
Training for a marathon is a individual trip, you have to be as mentally tough and physically ready. I have always thought the mental was most important.
Getting out on runs in zero weather and 90 degree humidity to prepare. Short easy runs are as important as the long ones .
I really liked both Roberts and Ryans takes on the race yesterday. Both ran their plan, Robert was content to hang on the shoulder of whomever led, whatever pace and the last 5 K run in what, a 14:20.
Ryan Hall on the other hand ran his pace , let the surges go 1 , 2 , 3 times, stayed on pace, broke his last years time, fastest American time at Boston and a couple steps out of 3rd. He didn't win but you set a Boston PR, in top 4 and with a 2:08 clocking , he has to be thinking of a flat Chicago this fall and breaking 2:05, his goal.
So I believe both will head back to a Kenyan farm and Mammoth Lake, Ca to rest and do the training necessary , alone with their thoughts and prepare for the fall marathon season.
I to will continue my running preparing for NYC with a couple goals, nothing like Roberts and Ryans, but marathoning is still just you against yourself and the runners around you are the scenery.
Easy day today after Mtn Bike last night
