My Baby
4 years ago I was given permission from the Northview staff to plan , layout and organize a cross country course on the property.
This is not just a field behind a church, this is 88 acres of rolling beauty. Green grass, smooth footing, plenty of rolling terrain.
The church has offered so much support, and really thought , a little trail around the property, but I think a little bigger.
We have races as big as 1700 high school runners in the fall, and this year a college conference meet. The course gets used, every day by random runners and walkers, teams for practice and folks walking there dogs
If you have never been there to either run, walk or watch a cross country meet, there isn't a much better course in the Midwest.
Yea I am a little bias, it's my baby, my vision, my layout, my pain. Without the church's blessing ( thanks Mark ) this property would still be beautiful ( Marcia is the best landscaper in the world ) but the choice of running their wouldn't happen.
The church has gone thru a wonderful expansion, and with a new parking lot, version 4 of the course is done . I ran it this morning, Garmin on, having meter wheeled twice , and the baby is dead on.
Yea, coaches will be on it with their wheels and all sorts of numbers will be flying around. Its 20 meters long, or 15 meters short, but I laid it out, measured it and at this point I am the only one that knows the tangent for the distance.
It will be shared to all but if you are leading the race ever, take all the tangents you will run 5000 meters, but go wide on a couple of them the race is longer.
In the Indy 500 this weekend , if the right side tires are at the white line always , they to will go 500 miles, go high 10% of the race and the race is further.
That all said Northview is just a great change of pace, quiet, easy on your legs and just beautiful.
You should try it sometime, just park your car, ride your bike over and start running, you wont get lost.
Just a FYI that a new woods loop is in the making, just adding to the variety of the place.
As of now we have courses of 3,5,6,and 8k
Oh , I rode my bike again today after the run!! My Niner needed a rest.
Geezzzz, it's spring out, first time out of garage !!
